By now, most people have heard of the Camp LeJeune water contamination lawsuits. From 1953 to 1987, the government was involved in contaminating the water at the Camp LeJeune military base in North Carolina. Military members, their families, contractors, and base workers, were exposed to this very dangerous water on a daily basis. Anyone who spent 30 days or more on the base during those years has a significantly increased risk of developing many different types of cancers.
Thanks to the work of some very dedicated individuals, a bill was drafted with bipartisan support that would allow those injured by the Camp LeJeune water contamination to file a lawsuit against the US government for the government’s misconduct. President Biden vowed to sign the bill as soon as it landed on his desk. Unfortunately, it now looks like the bill may be delayed, as some Republican senators have developed cold feet in allowing these military members and their families to recover for the life-changing injuries the government caused for all those years.
Since the bill has not yet been fully passed, President Biden cannot sign it into law. Until that happens, military members cannot file the lawsuits for the water contamination. We will continue to update our blog as new facts develop in the Camp LeJeune water contamination lawsuits.
