Snyder & Wenner had previously reported a policy-limits settlement against Willow Midwife Center for Birth and Wellness in Mesa, Arizona for causing the death of a newborn. Now Channel 12 News is reporting on its investigation into Willow. A more detailed story, including interviews with Snyder & Wenner’s attorney, Brian Snyder, and his clients, will be airing later this month on Channel 12.
Numerous reports have surfaced regarding Willow’s inappropriate and negligent treatment of women and babies during the labor and delivery process. The allegations seem to be consistent: The Willow midwife failed to properly monitor the baby’s heart rate and/or failed to recognize the second stage of labor was taking too long, and chose not to transfer mom/baby to the hospital for more specialized care. These negligent decisions have results in the death of some babies while others have sustained permanent brain injuries and cerebral palsy due to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
Birth injuries like this are completely preventable if the midwife pays proper attention and knows when to ask for help from a physician. Channel 12’s investigation will continue to reveal additional details about Willow Birth and Wellness Center’s repeated negligent conduct.
